Downloading .exe files doesn't work (times out)

Question:

I'd like to be able to put .exe files on my web server so that people can download them. At the moment, if someone clicks on such a download link, it times out (even when someone makes a right-click and then uses "save-as"). What causes this problem and how can it be fixed?

Answer:

Just make sure that "Allow Execution" flag is switched off in Properties page for an appropriate folder via IIS MMC.
